NRU Full Charge Bookkeeper

Northwest Requirements Utilities is looking for a Full Charge Bookkeeper\Office Administrator who is a confident self-starter and capable of working independently in a small office setting. The person who will thrive in this role will be proficient in all aspects of bookkeeping, familiar with office and benefit administration, have a keen eye for detail and enjoy wearing many hats.

Northwest Requirements Utilities (NRU) is a non-profit trade association representing the interests of Consumer Owned Utilities in the Northwest. . NRU was founded in 2002 to represent the interests of its members on a full-time basis. NRU currently serves 53 diverse member utilities who are all focused on delivering safe and reliable power at an affordable cost. To serve these members’ needs, NRU has established a family of organizations that are structured to accommodate the members’ disparate corporate structures and individual needs. The family of organizations are based out of one Portland office.

This position will be responsible for the bookkeeping of all entities including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, quarterly reporting and cash management. These functions are managed through QuickBooks and knowledge of QuickBooks will be an essential skill. This position will also perform key administrative duties for the organizations. Administrative duties include coordinating the logistics of board meetings and other scheduled or ad hoc meetings, benefits administration through National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) and basic management of office facilities and vendors.

Responsibilities

Bookkeeping:

·         Payroll, AR, AP, Journal Entries, Quarterly Financials and Reporting, cash management, compliance reporting at state and federal level and track assets for financial reporting to county and state.

·         This position also tracks power purchases for accuracy and timeliness, prepares invoices and prepares and executes ACH and wire transfers.

·         Monitor and transfer funds between bank accounts and utilize investment products for each entity to realize the best use of funds and highest returns across accounts at risk level(s) determined by entity management. Reconciliation of all accounts.

·         Work cooperatively with auditors to prepare tax returns, financial statements and audits. Address any discrepancies or questions regarding any or all accounting transactions and assure integrity of records.

 

Benefits Administration:

·         Manage benefits offered through National Rural Electric Cooperative Association including Group Insurance Programs, Retirement and Deferred Compensation.

·         Act as onsite liaison between staff and NRECA..

 

 Office Administration:

·         Planning and securing meeting space for all entity meetings. Including contracts for overnight room blocks, catering needs and conference AV requirements.

·         Assist staff in preparation and distribution of meeting materials.

·         Act as liaison for vendors, specifically IT support vendor and office space\facilities vendor(s).

·         Serve as entities’ initial point of contact with BPA, entity members, other industry members, vendors and the public, and maintains a positive image for the entities.   

Qualifications and Experience:

1.       Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in accounting or five or more years of directly related accounting or full charge bookkeeping experience.

2.       Proficient in the Office suite of programs, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Office 365 and online web hosting.

3.       Expertise in QuickBooks.

4.       Experience in small business administration or with a similar non-profit organization, including two or more years of finance and office administration work.

5.       Experience negotiating contracts with vendors of office supplies, maintenance and conference space purveyors.

6.       Experience identifying and prioritizing work efforts in a small office, preparation of materials, planning and meeting logistics, and filing of materials.
